International Timber roundup 2018

Published Tuesday 18th December 2018

As we come to the end of 2018, we thought it would be a great idea to take a look at our year’s highlights. From award nominations and brand launches to sponsorships and charitable work, the team at International Timber have been very busy!

One recent event that we took part in was National Environmental Health and Safety Day 2018. Our site teams learnt about the amount of waste they could potentially be creating in their day-to-day activities, which has already made a huge impact on the way we deal with shavings and cuttings on-site. Other training included side loader hazard training and hire extinguisher training, which you can see in action below!

Continuing with the health and safety theme, we also learnt about mental health in the workplace, the symptoms of someone suffering and how to achieve a healthy work/life balance to help prevent the manifestation or increase of poor mental health. It’s so important that everyone at International Timber feels happy at work, so this was an excellent session!

We continued on our mission to help the environment and support local talent by providing our ultra-environmentally friendly softwood shavings for horse bedding to our amazing partner, SEIB silver medallist, Jodie Crawford. Jodie and her horse Clever finished second in the Hickstead qualifier – with only two qualifying positions available, and cemented their place in the final rounds of the show jumping championship! We were proud to sponsor such an incredible talent!

Supporting charities around the country is something International Timber tries to do as much as possible, and in 2018 that mission didn’t slow down. Back in June we supplied timber for an outdoor communal area for a leading children’s hospice in Wales, Ty Hafan. Ty Hafan provide care for life-limited children to ensure that they enjoy the best quality of life possible and that their families can make the most of the time they have left with their child. We were honoured to help with this project.

2018 was also a year of award nominations. We were thrilled to be nominated by a committee of our peers and esteemed judges at the Timber Trade Journal (TTJ) awards for:

  • Excellence in Engineered Timber
  • Career Development Award
  • Hardwood Trader of the Year

To be recognised alongside the best of the best is a true representation of the incredible work that goes on behind the scenes at International Timber.

Moving further afield in the UK, The City of Edinburgh Council got in touch with us to refurbish classrooms and community spaces in local primary schools. We were delighted to provide FSC-certified timber for this project, which will give young students a functional and exciting space to grow and learn.

The project was completed in August 2018, just in time for the school year beginning! Take a look.

A craze that seems to be growing this year is outdoor living rooms. Never seen one? Well we supplied stunning charcoal Dura cladding for this one in North Wales, and the finished product is something to behold.

Stylish, high-quality Dura Clad composite wall cladding in charcoal was required to complete the build, which involved a concealed door to a storage area, a sliding door, and bifold doors to maximise the view and connection with the beautiful setting. Take in these beautiful sights here.

And to round off this incredible year, we absolutely must mention the launch of our new brand, Intelligence!

Our Intelligence brand centres around a range of engineered and modified products by International Timber, and helps us sell joinery solutions to customers that were formerly difficult to come by. In simple terms, we can now help woodworkers overcome traditional sourcing and availability issues and offer bespoke products to match individual requirements. It’s seen incredible support since we officially launched in July, and it’s going from growth to growth! Check out our most recent case study!
